Word is Chuck Palahniuk came up with the plot for his novel Invisible Monsters while pouring over fashion magazines in a waiting room one day. What came next was a darkly beautiful story following the life of a fashion model who was shot in the face and later befriended by Brandy Alexander, a hot mess who i wanted to love/hate/laugh at/and be friends with simultaneously. This raw take on the fashion world is a superficial guilty pleasure. There is an unconventional poetry about his writing style that is just as equally entertaining as it is thought provoking and sucked me in within the first chapter. I found myself revisiting so many quotes so here are some of them...
"Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everyone I've ever known"
"The only way to find true happiness is to risk being completely cut open."
"When you don't share your problems, you resent hearing the problems of other people"
"People are all over the world telling their one dramatic story and how their life has turned into getting over this one event. Now their lives are more about the past than their future"
"All god does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring."
“Our real discoveries come from chaos.”
“It's all mirror, mirror on the wall because beauty is power the same way a gun is power.”
They are in the process of making a movie due to come out in 2010. Excited but nervous. Don't ruin it..
